The MultiOne SimpleSet tool automates the configuration process. Lighting manufacturers can set the driver for the particular luminaire model at hand at the end of the production line, even once assembly is complete.
"You don’t need to choose between 500 mA and 700 mA," said Reinhard Voorspoels. "You can set it to 640 mA if that is the current you need."
The SimpleSet technology has already rolled out in the US. Philips will begin shipping the tool in the UK at the beginning of 2015. And it will come to all Xitanium LED driver products.
While the SimpleSet feature might be significant to lighting designers/specifiers in the short term because they know such LED drivers will deliver precise current output, the long-term potential of the technology is perhaps more significant. Most mobile phones today include NFC capabilities. NFC uses a radio-frequency-identification (RFID)-like technology for simple wireless communications. You simply place the mobile phone near the driver and simple data transfer is securely enabled.
We've seen a few other instances of NFC used with led high bay light for sale products. For example, NXP is using NFC to pair controls and fixtures securely that are based on the EnOcean Alliance energy-harvesting technology. Other companies are using Bluetooth to link mobile phones and luminaires, but the NFC technology is much cheaper to implement. One usage of Bluetooth is to commission LED-based fixtures and NFC could be used similarly.
For example, lighting specifiers could use NFC for precise current adjustments in the field to exactly match lumen output of multiple luminaires in a setting. The new Trinity product delivers 700 mA per channel at 12V. In aggregate the drivers deliver 240W, and LumaStream refers to the products as remote drivers since they are located separately from the LED luminaires.

Cree announces next-generation LED retrofit lamps with legacy looks

We have not had the chance to get a hands-on look at the product just yet (stay tuned), but we suspect that the new design has thermal elements and likely uses thermoplastics to minimize the look of the elements and minimize weight as well. Based on the cutaway photo that Cree supplied, the new design uses far fewer LEDs than did the filament tower. But it's likely that Cree is able to drive the LEDs harder with the new thermal design while maintaining suitable life. The lamps are rated for 25,000 hours of use and carry a three-year warranty.
Cree refers to the new design as 4Flow Filament Design. The LEDs are still mounted on a central led street light wholesale or tower as in the original design. But rather than depending on a metal tower to conduct heat to the base, the new design has slits at the base and top of the bulb to allow air-flow across the LEDs and thermal surfaces to which they are mounted.
The new lamps offer 460- and 815-lm output in the 40W and 60W equivalents, respectively. As in the past Cree will offer the lamps in a warm 2700K CCT and in a daylight version at 5000K. The brighter version uses 11W. CRI is 80 or better. The product is slightly larger than an A-19 bulb, but would fit in most applications.

In a LuxLive presentation taking place on the show floor on Nov. 19, Simon Waldron of Sainsbury's took the EcoLight Arena stage and discussed the retailer's commitment to energy efficiency and the success it has realized thus far with LED lighting retrofits. By the end of 2014 , the company will have installed 100,000 LED luminaires across its stores, equating to savings of 54.6 GWh (gigawatt hours) annually.

On the Wolverhampton sales floor, Waldron said 2.1 km of Zumtobel Tecton linear LED fixtures were installed. Prior to 2012, the company lit the sales floor to 1000 lx.
